We have two great events planned for October, but we need the help of parents and family members to make them successful! Curriculum Night, October 9th Have questions about what your students are learning? Curious to find out how their homework connects to their classroom work? On October 9th, the teachers and staff at Ventura Park are inviting parents to come in and learn more about the curriculum their children are using in their classrooms. There will be two information sessions so if you have two children at different grade levels, you'll be able to hear from both teachers. We'd really like as many parents to come as possible, and we understand that child care on a weeknight can be tricky. So, while parents are in the classrooms, it would be great for the kids to have indoor gym time or craft time in the cafeteria. So, what do we need? We need parents who are able to come in and play gym games or make crafts, color, or paint with our students. We can work in shifts so you can still get down to the classroom and hear from the teachers. This should be a pretty easy volunteer opportunity. It's mostly just playing with kids. Bonus? The gym night should help tire out our kids so they sleep well. If you're interested in volunteering for Curriculum Night, please email us at [email protected], or you can leave your name, number, and email in the office and they will get a message to us! Trunk-or-Treat, October 31st Do you love Fall and Halloween? This is the volunteer opportunity for you! Trunk-or-Treat is a new event we're planning this year and we need family support to make it happen! Trunk-or-Treat provides a safe, easy way for your children to participate in trick-or-treating. Parents and family members pull their cars into the school parking lot, decorate them, and then the children go from car to car to trick or treat. If your family isn't in to trick-or-treating but still want to enjoy some fun, fall activities, we are also planning to have a few carnival games like pumpkin bowling and pumpkin ring toss. Parents could choose to make this their only trick-or-treating event, or you could kick off or end your night with us. Ways you can help? *Volunteer to bring your car and decorate it! You can Google "Trunk or Treat" for ideas and be as creative as you want. We only ask that your decorations aren't very scary as we want this event to be fun for all ages, including little ones. Please let us know by October 10th if you'd like to bring your car in. *Can't bring your vehicle down, but still want to help? You can come help by setting up the carnival games and helping to run them. The games will be free, so no need to worry about tickets. This will just involve helping the kids understand how the game works, keeping them going, and handing out prizes. *If you want to help support the event in other ways, we would love donations of candy or other trick-or-treat items that we could also use as game prizes. If you want to donate pumpkins or decorations for the carnival games or any other items you think would be helpful, that would be great as well. Also, we'd love to offer a prize for the "best decorated vehicle." If you know of a business that would be willing to donate, let us know! Email us at [email protected] if you want to be involved or leave your name, number and email in the office and it will get to us! The school year for us doesn't truly begin until September 4th. But for our teachers, it begins much earlier. Aside from all of the work they do over the summer to prepare for the upcoming year, they also need to come back and get their classrooms organized, structured, and decorated so that they are inviting and engaging when the students come back.
This year, that has to be done even earlier as our open house is on August 28th. If you have some time in the next two weeks to lend a helping hand to our teachers, I know it would be greatly appreciated. Whether it's hanging up borders, helping to organize math or reading centers, or even photocopying materials, any extra help we can give will make the beginning of the year run more smoothly. If you're able to help out, please send me your contact info (either via message here or on our Facebook page) and I'll pass it along to the teachers! The PTO will be hosting an end of the year carnival on June 5th. The carnival will be open from 6:00-7:30 pm and will include games (Junk Food Walk, Bingo, Dance Dance Revolution, Minute to Win It, Bean Bag Toss, Fishing Pond Toss, Glowing Ring Toss), Face Paint and Temporary Tattoos, a Dunk Tank (watch for Principal Curtis!!!), and a Raffle (with prizes from the Academy Theater, Flying Pie Pizza, G6 AirPark, Shawn Ingersoll Photography and more!!). We'll also be selling pizza, sno-cones, popcorn, and bottled water. So what do we need? We need you! We're looking for volunteers who can run the games, put tattoos on kids, sell food, and have fun celebrating the end of the year and all of the hard work our kids and staff have put in this year. If you're able to volunteer for some of the carnival, or even the whole thing, please let us know as soon as possible. You can either comment below, use our Contact link above, or connect with us on our Facebook page to send us your information. The more hands on deck, the more fun our kids will have! |
