Every May, the Oregon Safe Routes to School organization hosts a Walk and Bike Challenge Month, where schools all over the state track their trips via walking, biking, skating, etc., and compete to see who can get the highest percentage of active transportation trips to and from school for the month. They have a website at http://walknbike.org. Last year, Ventura Park won the Most Improved award.
Each classroom will have a chart to track their trips to school (walk, bike, skate, bus, etc.). There will be weekly prize drawings for students who participate with a larger prize drawing at the end of the month.
There will also be an official "Walk and Bike" day on May 7th where we are hoping to get as many students walking/biking to school as possible.
If you have questions or want to get involved, contact Kathleen McDade, Ventura's Technology Specialist at 503-256-6500!
